Dr Vivienne Barrow
GPST1 Doctor
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust
Currently training as a ST1 doctor in General Practice and Global Health, my interest in homelessness and health first developed whilst a medical student at the University of Bristol where I volunteered with Shelter and later became President of student society Homed, whose aim is to promote awareness of homelessness amongst medical students. Following a homeless inpatient encounter as a student, I designed and conducted an audit into the management of homeless patients in the hospital setting, the results of which went on to support the successful development of a homeless in-reach team at the Gloucester Royal Hospital. I have since repeated the audit elsewhere and continue to promote change. It always strikes me that simple and efficient solutions are not difficult to find! Looking forwards, I hope to incorporate homeless healthcare and policy into my future work.
