Wez Steele
Peer Navigator
The Salvation Army
Wez is a Peer Navigator for the NIHR funded SHARPS (Supporting Harm Reduction through Peer Support) Study. Wez is based in both an Edinburgh City Salvation Army Drop-in Centre and a Recovery Hub in West Lothian run by The Cyrenians.
Previously Wez worked in a residential treatment centre as a live-in caretaker, offering support to residents during the evenings as well as maintaining the building and record keeping. Wez completed a Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care during this time.
Wez has a lengthy history of both homelessness and chronic substance misuse and is passionate about offering support to others in finding a way out of this, should this be what they want. He is interested in the use of peer support and the potential benefits and drawbacks of this and how it is perceived by others within services.
