Former Minister of State for Public Health and then Housing and Planning

Labour Member of Parliament for Don Valley from 1997-2019, Caroline is one of Labour’s best-known figures and frequently appears on tv and radio.

A Minister in five departments: Home Office, Health, Work and Pensions, Communities and Local Government and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

“At the Home Office and Health, Caroline led on policies to tackle addiction and offer routes out through both the justice and health sectors working together. In her housing brief, her work involved not only preventing homelessness but identifying the rights types of homes and support needed.”

In opposition she was Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government followed by Shadow Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change.

As a backbencher she sat on several Select Committees: Education & Employment; Administration; Modernisation, Public Accounts and Intelligence and Security.

Caroline worked in local government, the voluntary sector and for a trade union before entering parliament.
