Dr Theresa Schwaiger
Consultant Clinical Psychologist; Lead for Psychological Therapies, Clinical Services, Anna Freud Centre
Dr Schwaiger is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who first trained in Vienna, Austria and completed her professional doctorate at University College London. She has specialised in the work with refugees, individuals affected by homelessness and children with history of trauma and abuse.
At the Anna Freud Centre, Dr Schwaiger leads on projects for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and on developing early interventions for families affected by domestic abuse who reside in refuges, along with innovating treatment models for children in and at the edge of care. She has a special interest in parent/carer-child trauma-focused therapy to treat acute PTSD and developmental trauma. Dr Schwaiger acts as an expert witness in the family court, delivers international trainings on various interventions (e.g. MBT) and has a keen interest in clinical research. She has published on a variety of subjects related to her clinical work and is an honorary teaching fellow at UCL.
