Fran Busby

Social worker and Homelessness Lead for South London and Maudsley NHS Mental Health Trust

Fran Busby is a social worker and Homelessness Lead for South London and Maudsley NHS Mental Health Trust. She has worked with people experiencing street homelessness for 30 years, mainly in Adult Social care and the NHS, but also in third sector organisations such as St Mungo’s and Thamesreach.

Her services, START Homeless Outreach Teams, are the winner of the 2023 London Homelessness Awards, delivering outreach mental health and dual diagnosis care for people experiencing homelessness across South London. She sits on the Steering Group for the APPG on Ending Homelessness, was the social work representative for the NICE Guidelines for homelessness and is part of DOHSC’s Multiple Disadvantage group. She has just set up a London Peer Network for homelessness social workers and is an independent safeguarding adults reviewer, with a recent thematic review into safeguarding and multiple exclusion homelessness for Kent SAB.

Fran is passionate about delivering integrated, relational care for people experiencing multiple disadvantage and has run homelessness pilot projects for NHSE and OHID, as well as writing social work guidance for the Mayor’s Life off the Streets Group.
