Jo Dawes

UCL/Pathway Clinical Fellow

Jo Dawes is a physiotherapist and NIHR Doctoral Research Fellow based in the Collaborative Centre for Inclusion Health, at University College London, UK. She is nearing completion of her PhD which has explored frailty amongst people experiencing homelessness. She has recently published her findings on the prevalence of frailty in people experiencing homelessness (The Lancet Healthy Longevity) and a systematic review of physical activity interventions for people experiencing homelessness (British Journal of Sport Medicine). She has also worked on research during the COVID pandemic to understand how restrictions affected people who were homeless at the time. Jo is passionate about teaching and has co-led a masters-level module in Homeless and Inclusion Health at UCL and takes the topic of inclusion health to several pre-registration healthcare programmes across London. She has worked as a physiotherapist in various National Health Service settings in the UK, including eight years in Greater Glasgow Primary Care Trust, within a specialist health and social care team for people experiencing homelessness. Jo contributes to the work of homelessness charity, Crisis, having developed a physiotherapy service, which runs alongside other health services during the Christmas week. Prior to moving to UCL, Jo was a Senior Lecturer in physiotherapy at St George's, University of London.
