Dr Betty Gration is a Core Medical Trainee currently working at UCLH. She graduated from Graduate Entry Medicine at Oxford University in 2007 after completing a Biochemistry Master’s degree there. As a student and teenager she volunteered with different homeless charities in London, Oxford, Nottingham and Brighton. During her Foundation training years at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital she decided to combine her interests in medicine and homelessness by leading a project for the Pathway Homeless Team at GSTT. This project sought to find the best way to improve screening for blood borne viruses among the homeless population in hospitals. Not only did the project lead to increased screening rates, but it also identified means by which the specific needs of homeless patients can be highlighted to healthcare workers.
