Kwame
Volunteer
Ashford Place
Kwame was one of the first people to receive help from our temporary accommodation, shortly after it opened in November 2014. His transformation since the day he was first found sleeping in a nearby park has been remarkable.
After a few months of staying in Ashford Place, we found him long term secure accommodation in a one bedroom flat in Kilburn. He was then one of our first peer support workers, providing a range of support to our clients, including day and overnight cover, assistance taking clients to appointments, and through his experience of staying with us, giving us his insight into how to improve services.
And then, last month, after years of voluntary work and training, Kwame made the transition from being a volunteer to becoming a paid employee of Ashford Place. He now provides support work every evening between the hours of 5PM and midnight. What he has learnt over the last three years really has made him an expert by experience.
