Member of the Queen’s Nursing Institute’s Homeless Health Advisory Committee

Maria worked in Public Health as a Homeless Health Specialist Nurse from 2004-2013. She was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bedfordshire from 2013-2015 supporting the Government’s ‘Call to Action’ programme for Health Visiting. In 2012, Maria completed a doctoral reflexive narrative study of her homelessness practice under the supervision of Professor Christopher Johns, an internationally renowned nurse academic in reflective practice. She has presented conference papers as reflexive storytelling performances in the UK, Iceland, Ireland and Denmark. In 2012, Maria became a member of the Queen’s Nursing Institute Homeless Health Advisory Committee. With fellow committee member Janet Keauffling MBE , she aims to inspire other health professionals to write about their experiences in homelessness practice and in so doing, promote social justice in homeless health care. Recently retired, Maria is in the process of becoming a Trustee for Emmaus Turvey and Consultant Nurse (Homelessness) for JustUs, Bedfordshire.
