It was from my own experiences of adverse social circumstances during pregnancy, that led to my journey into working with vulnerable pregnant women, and campaigning in this area.

In 2016 I was awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Travel (WCMT) Fellowship to ‘Explore the Impacts of Supporting Vulnerable Women with Doulas in Australia and the USA.’ This has developed my insight into the scope for developing doula support for homeless women, and other vulnerable groups in the UK. Building on my fellowship work, I have recently started an MRes at Bournemouth University. My research project is focused on ‘exploring the experiences of women who have experienced human trafficking that have been supported by doulas’; evaluating the work of a small-scale doula project that has recently started on the south coast.
