David Nutt is a psychiatrist and Prof at Imperial College London and chair of the Charity DrugScience.org.uk. His research focuses on the use of brain imaging to understand how drugs work in the brain and the mechanism underpinning psychiatric disorders particularly addiction and anxiety disorders. He has recently completed the first ever brain imaging study of LSD and also shown that psilocybin [the active ingredient in magic mushrooms]can be used to treat people with depression unresponsive to conventional treatments. He is best known as the drug czar who was in 2009 sacked by the Labour government for challenging their drug policy.
